hey everyone, this issue is a matter of wether i can drive to school or not; my heater blower motor (non-ac) will wail when its turned on. in the summer when i turn it on itll wail a lil then run fine... but when its cold it keeps screaming and wont stop. ive looked at various parts stores and catalogs and every blower motor i find for non-ac bolts on from the engine compartment side of the firewall; mine bolts on from the cab side. im going to take it out in shop class today and see if i can grease the bearings and see if thatll o anything. any help or ideas you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
BTW, my truck is a standard cab 1978 F-100, 351M, 2wd.
R&R Blower assy', put a drop or two of oil on armature shaft bushings where it exits motor case, and at back cover too. This will correct your problem.
While you are in there, if you have access to an Air Hose & Blow Gun, blow your blower cage plenum clean too. They accumulate trash over time.
There are specific oils for use with electric motors.
But if your judicious & don't flood it, a few drops of Marvels Mystery Oil, 3 in 1 Oil, even Sewing Machine Oil works great.
Also heater Blowers & respective Motors are determined by Super Heater or Standard Heater type. All OEM A/C Systems use a Super Heater style set up.
Of course I don't know about National Franchise Parts Houses, they tend to make stuff up that has little to do with what OEM says. . .

The non-A/C trucks blower motors actually bolt on from the inside, the motor just passes through a hole in the firewall. You have to remove the heater box from inside the truck to get the motor out.
hey everyone, just got outa shop. i tried to take the motor out but i couldnt figure out how to get the duct work outa my way. i sprayed the end of the motor with a little lube and it worked for all of 5 minutes then started screamed again. im going to call a couple shops around here and see what theyre rates are and if they could do it.
Weekend before last, wife removed the heater box from the 78 F-150 non-ac, replaced the heater core, was plugged up, and installed a new heater fan motor, to eleminate the odds of failure later, it's a pain to replace. It could be the cage rubbing, if so, you need to fix it, it'll eventually chew up the heater box, you can remove the vent door on the passenger side and totate it by hand to check for rubbing.
well everyone, me and dad ripped out the heater assembly this weekend. packed it with elec. motor grease. itd working fine now cept for a small coolant lek that im working on.
