Dana 60 differential

If you pull the differential out of the axle housing and dont mess with the pinion shaft do you have to reset up your gears. The reason im asking is my driver side axle tube is leaking. And i want to replace the seal. I dont have the equipment to set the back lash. Just curious..

nope you'll be fine. you can even pull the pinion out as long as you put all the shims back. you do NOT want to loosen the bolts around the ring gear! then you will have to have them setup.

when you take it apart lay everything out as you took them apart, they have to go back in the way they came out!

What about if i wanted to replace all the bearings while im in there. Would i need to reset up the front end as long as i use all the original shims.

yes. the bearings won't be exactly the same as the ones on it now, and you would need to do a complete gear setup.

If it is a front Dana 60, I doubt the bearings need replacing, unless they are rusted or if you find a bunch of large metal chunks in the oil.
