71 f250 frame vs 78 frame

hello i got 71 ford 250 pulling truck and i am rebuilding it once again and going up a class to mod class i have used a 71 frame for the past 3yrs and it has worked good but i have been told that the 78-79 frames are better since they are wider in the back so i am unshure what to do built up my 71 frame or 78? the 78 is a f250 but it came with a 300-6 so would that be a light duty and not as strong? i am gonna be braceing eather one but maybe since the 78 is wider it will be better? any help would be great thanxs

All 78-79 F250 4X4 frames are the same except for motor mount perches and length (I.E. crew cab & super cab).

I have trucks with both frames and the 71 is stronger and more rigid. I'm using a 78 F250 frame under my 72 pulling truck now. I built it out of two trucks that I got REALLY cheap. If you use the 78 frame you'll also have to shorten it behind the cab so that the rear tires will be centered in the wheelwell. If it where me I would stick with the 71 frame, I think you would be doing alot of work for nothing.

I think the older frames are stronger. The newer frames widen right at rear of the cab and it looks like a major week spot to me, but thats just my opinion.

good point i never thought of that i do kinda notice that i dont seem to see any older frams flex but i did see a newer frame flex and bend alot so i think i am gonna run the older frame it dose seem a hair thicker and sturdyer plus it is rust free and my 78 is kinda gettin some flake thanxs guys
