i have a 74 f-250 with a 360. ive noticed on the right side of the engine there is oil pretty much everywhere. im kind of new and not sure what to check. the oil gauge also drops way down when going down the road but comes back up when i slow down. i dont really know where to start so any help would be great.
Just BTDT and so it's still fresh in my mind ('75 F150 360 T18 PS A/C). :)
As soon as you make up your mind to take the timing cover off, do yourself a favor and buy a crankshaft oil seal so you won't have to stop and run after one while you got it apart. ;)
I have a bone to pick with whoever decided to put only two bolts side by side on the fuel pump. IMO there should be 4 or if only 2 bolts al least put 'em top and bottom. I see that as a weak spot for oil leaks etc. It's bolted into aluminum so that just adds another problem. I replaced my "rear bolt" with a glued-in stud.
I went over all that because it was already apart, I wanted to change out the waterpump with a brand new cast iron "FlowKooler" from Summit with the 12 fins (if you're interested those have the "-E" suffix BTW). My other one was weeping out the back cover, which it's been fixed up as a spare.
Why a spare? :)
You tell me and we'll both know. :/
