I'm usually on the 6.0L, but someone (I think it was beachbumcook) was talking about the sylvania super star(?) bulb replacements for our headlights...anyways I went down to get a set because I think mine are very dim, and they now have sylvania Super Star Ultra Bright that the guy said are brand new and better than the Super Star; they are 25 each and opposed to 20 each...does anyone have any experience with these bulbs?
I have Silverstars and have no problems with them.
Find an auto parts store with both types on display and compare and see...
Some have said that the blue tint that is on the SIlverstars cuts done the output slightly, and that a totoally clear lamp would be the best. Have not heard of, or tried, the new model you mention... but something tells me that you probably can not go wrong with eiteher one of them.
Just remember... when changing DO NOT touch the bulb with your fingers... the oils will/may blow the bulb when hot.
I have the Silverstars on my truck with the 05+ style headlamps. Huge difference over the stockers (of course I have a heavy duty upgraded wiring harness for them).
Just picked up the Ultra SilverStars to drop into my 99 F-150...
I've been told that they do not draw any more amps/volts/watts...generates heat... than stock bulbs it also states that in their web site...why would I need heavy duty wiring?...

If you running standard bulbs rated at the same wattage as OEM... then you do not need the wiring harness or any upgrades. If one is running greater wattages or more lights... then yes.
I chose to run standard wattage bulbs in my headlights and fog lights with geat success. I did add the britebox.com bright box mod so my high and low beams and fogs all stay on when the "high beams" are on.... extra light from the same bulbs.
Check out Geno's garage (they are a sponsor) and have the best prices I found for the britebox.
Thanks, but I don't have fogs and just wanted brighter than factory bulbs...and the way I read it from the package and web site for sylvania is the silver stars are the same as OEM; right?...or wrong.
bczolone - Yes, the Silverstars are the same wattage as the OEM bulbs. You *do not* need to upgrade the wiring harness to run them.
I thought the Silverstar Ultras were supposed to be a bluer tint, actually. I've got the standard H13 Silverstars in my '05 F350 (plus 9005 Silverstars in the fog lights) and I really like them.
You don't need a heavy duty harness since the Silverstars are the same wattage as stock bulbs.
I went with the heavy duty harness when I swapped 05 HD headlamps into my 2001 SD.
The stock wiring harness is small so there is a voltage drop by the time the juice gets to the bulbs. With the heavy duty harness.....there is no voltage drop = more light output.
Got it figured out! Yes the ultras are supposed to last up to 20-30% longer but are not brighter. They are $50 a pair whereas the Silverstar were $37 a pair so I bought and installed them a few minutes ago...the pass sides clip was already broken so when I re installed it I "soaked" it with some electrical tape over the "ring" and connector...hope it holds, but it had cracked and broken (no clip) before I even touched it so i guess it'll hold...that damn plastic is so brittle.
