Wendell - BAMA Question

Wendell - having trouble getting ahold of Doug and needed an answer I thought you might be able to help me with. I was trying to re-calibrate for my tire size change, he originally set me for the 31's I was running. When I go to change tire size the selection is something like this:

REV/MILE 500/05
500/10
500/15

ect, ect....ok so how does this work? What do I change to? A 33" tall tire turns 1920 revolutions per mile in comparison to a 31" tall tire turning 2043.89 revolutions per mile. What am I missing here, what do the numbers mean...HELP!!!! lol Anyway was just joping you might know, I have left Doug a couple of messages and have not heard back from him, thanks in advance for the help -

"YEAH", try and call Doug at the new number Bob has, I didn't do anything as far as tire sizes. I went from 245's to 265's and it wasn't enough to worry about. I will check out your pics. How bad did those new tires stress your little 3.0 ? Nothing gears can't fix I'm sure hee hee.

The lift and tires look awesome !!!!!!!!! Looks as good as those high priced kits. I couldn't tell what tire your running, did you go with BFG's, or something else ? I know it won't have the articulation of Dixon Brothers, but unless your climbing boulders, "who cares". Have you had in the sand yet, if so how do the new skins handle it ? It came out really level, your 4x4 did a great job, you should be very happy with it, looks wise anyhow and bet it will float across the sand as well.

Ok I got a reply back from Doug, still a little vague and am waiting for him to reply again...he explained part but did not answer as to what his values mean....so I am waiting on that. The tires are BFG Mud TA's. It really rides surprisingly well....I need to free the front end up just a tad...and I am working that out, but I am pretty happy...it handles pretty good. The tires are not lugging me down as much as I thought they would...but like you say gears will fix that, but at least I feel like I can wait a few months before messing with it. Have not been to the beach yet, am going this weekend, will let you know how it goes....thanks for the kind words about my truck, really appreciat it....have come a looonnnggg way with this truck, it has really tuned out nice.

Bob - I meant to ask you this on the other thread. Any info or link to the people that make the difrent upper control arms? Do they just sell them or do you have to get a whole kit??? How pricey are they??? I would be intrested in looking into it f it was fairly resonable..????

its a friend of mine in arizona, i get a few parts from him, but lately he has been ragging me for ideas on what to fabricate, since he is trying to get into suspension stuff now. The best thing you can do to help is get me a set, or cad drawings, or some kind of plans for the keys you are using, so he can make a set, put them on a ranger, and fab upper arms from that point.

Let me see what I can do....lucky for you I have been in the drafting/design buisness for longer than I can remember...lol....drawings are not a problem. Realistically what I can get is what the difrence in the key is so to speak, the "index"..is that what the adjustment point is called???? But I can at least let you know where it is located in comparison to the factory one. At this point what I am really leaning towards is backing my torsion bars down a tad....enough to un-bind the front suspension just a tad, yet still be able to clear the 33's (I don't have any problems breaking out the saber saw on anything on the inner fender well. But once I unbind the front a little I am thinking some adjustable Rancho RS-9000 shocks will can come more into play for dialing the suspension in....now if all that does not work....then I am going to lean towards the upper control arm replacement....when I originally thought of this I was going to try and get a set from fab-tech...don't know if I could get them or not, but if your friend is intested in doing some of this maybe I can at least help him with info or sketches/drawings and better pictures of what I did and the actual parts. Anyway will keep you guys posted on what all I do to dial the set-up in....like I said it's not too bad right now...just a little to tight upfront thats all...but it's manageable.

John, why don't you just give Bob the address and phone number of the company where you got them, then that way he can get the real mcoy to use to fab up thier A- arms. Your truck is sweet, I 'll say that, even the matching topper accents it. You can run along time on your stock gears with an automatic. You should tell Bob since you turned him on to those nice forged keys, he should give you a good deal on the udp for your 3.0. That would help free up a little torque to help pull those big tires untill you get some gears hee hee. Will look forward to your report when you get back. I knew you wouldn't let me down and stay with BFG's, The best offroad tire for my money.

Kinda off topic here, i'm good at that, but since my questions related, i'm not strating a new thread. Can doug make a program the works with a turbo. i'ld supose he'ld need the setup, but could he do it, and could he do it for something running on AV gas? also could he do it for an f-150 engine?

Doug can tune whatever you want, though some of the things you mentioned he would want on a dyno. Companies like Granatelli and Explorer Express fly him out to their shops to write the tunes for their boost kits, and recently he tuned a 5.0 explorer with a turbo mounted in the SPARE TIRE AREA, with very little lag.

As far as the keys, I do have another friend who has been working on lowering keys, which incidentally also need upper arms to work well. The stock range of motion of the upper arm is meant for the stock ride height, and isnt very forgiving when going to far either up or down. The guy who would make the arms is thinking a lot of money for them, so it may not be worth it. He is thinking something like $800 off the top of his head.

800.00$, thats a 3rd of a dixon brothers lift kit, and you can race it, he doesn't have to make them from gold, forged steel will work hee hee

I misplaced the address, it's here in my pile of notes somewhere LoL.
