Hi, Dave here. Here is what I have found to be the easiest way to make your EBPV work as an exhaust brake. I know it is by far NOT the cheapest way to go, but I am seriously considering this as an alternative to rigging up something with switches and relays. I honestly hate to tap into wires, especially when the bundle is huge and you have to dig for the wire. This system is totally "plug and play". You unplug the factory connection, plug thier connection in, and replug the factory connector into the back of thier plug. Thier plug is in between the factory connections. It works through your cruise switches. It really seems like it is idiot proof, so that is why I am leaning towards this unit. It works out to about $380 delivered ready to install. It allows you to set the speed where your TC locks up and unlocks.....and all through the cruise switches rather than toggle switches you have to remember to reposition....Go to the auction and it has a link to thier websight with all the details.....Hope this helps you out....there may be lots of ways of doing it cheaper, but this seems to be the easiest....I will let you know in a week or so....Dave
as far as the best way, the accelerator defeat is a nice option. More than once I've pulled away from a stop wondering what was wrong with my truck... only to discover the EBPV was closed.
The valve takes 2-3 seconds to close, a momentary switch is useless.
Sorry about that..I had just posted the item number...I copied and pasted the item number into the search box on ebay and got to it...here is the cut and pasted link for ya........It sure looks like the simple way to not cut and splice anything but it is pricey.........But like everything else I am trying, it's costing more than I thought, and the doctor bills just don't stop.....
I've heard good things about the SP Diesel controller that's in the eBay auction. It's function is nice, but like Dave said, it's pricey.
I rigged up my own, and tied it in with a TC lock. You've got to have the TC locked for it to work, and on some stock programming, the TC will unlock as soon as you hit the brakes, which would render and exhaust brake useless. I've got a gallery on it, and I can email you the wiring diagram if you want. My setup is a little more complex than it needs to be, with multiple relays involved, but they're there to prevent accidental TC lock and to keep the OD OFF light from flashing when the TC is locked.
I guess I am being judgemental but when it comes to my truck, and buying something complicated for it, I don't know if I can trust an ebay seller that uses run-on sentences, constantly repeats himself and calls it an EVB valve??....I don't know that I have heard it called that before, I always thought it was an EPBV.....Just not too confident in thier knowledge of our trucks, and the lack of pictures and instructions.....I emailed about pics and instructions so we shall see....
i did this several years ago using a splitter switch off a big truck. it's very simple to hook up. it cost $5 for the switch at the truck junk yard.
as a side note, my ebpv jammed up after about a year. it does'nt work anymore. that valve was not made to be an exaust break, so don't be surprised if it does'nt last very long.
