Hello folks,
Got a 2000 E150 w/ 5.4L and 77k on the clock and engine seems to be bucking/shuddering, this started happening a few days ago and I kind of thought it might be the ujoints but when I kept van in park with brake on and reved engine it still happens. Tonight the check engine light just came on. Ive never changed the plugs on it. Curious to what this might be, any suggestions ?
Sounds like an engine miss. The first thing to do is check the codes to see why the check engine light is on. Knowing what codes it has will help you trackdown the cause.
It could be a bad coil or plug but could also be any number of other problems. Check the codes and report back.
CHANGE THE PLUGS!!!!! My gfs escort did the same thing. Changed the coilpack, new wires.....still did it. Finally got smart and changed the plugs and one of em was toasted. runs like a brand new car (thank god autozone takes back parts.....got that 60 back for the coil)
It almost sounds like you have a bad spark plug. If it was a COP it wouldn't run. Our '04 with a 4.6 had two of the COPs go bad in a row. When they do go out the engine dies and won't restart. I'd check the airbox, my dad had the '04 start to buck and hesitate on the freeway. When he opened the hood he saw the airbox was open letting unmetered air into the engine.
Yup, Im biting the bullet and taking her to the dealer to change the plugs & boots, this will send me back about $348.00 for everything, anything else I should have them do while there in there ?
You have a COP that is bad. Very common problem. The engine will keep running, it just shudders and there is a noticable lack of power during acceleration. I have 10 cylinders so the effect might be slightly different than 8. With 130K, I have replaced 4 so far.
No need for the dealer and $348 sounds like it's just the plugs price. Add in the COP for another $100 at the dealer.
All fixed at the dealer, twas a bad plug on cylinder #1, all plugs and boots replaced for $348.00. Hopefully get another 75k mi. out of them. Money well spent!!
