Hi everyone,
I have a chance to pick up a turbo set-up for a 7.3 idi. I presently have a 6.9 idi. This kits has everthing with the exception of the y-pipe. It is a kit made by Canadian Turbo Sytems and I cannot find any info if they still exist. The turbo itself is a Schwitzer/borg warner. I do not know if I can find a pipe that is factory that will fit or I would have to get one fabricated up?
The Y pipe is not the simplest piece to be missing. You can probably order a factory Y-Pipe from ATS, be prepared to spend a few $$$$'s. Here is their address:
ATS also has a direct web-page but you may have difficulty buying from Canada. I checked a while back and the closest ATS dealer to where i live was in Washington State.
Fabricating you own cross-over pipe is not a simple task. Lots of bends and twists. (look at the picture in the above webpage)
CTS was a system that was sold by Rob Blair from Kamloops, BC. The kit was offered by many Ford Dealers in Canada in the late 80's through early 90's. Parts are no longer made for the systems though I have heard that you can still find bits and pieces in small town dealers throughout Canada. Like Hamberger stated, you will more than likely have to buy an aftermarket ATS pipe if it will work or find a GOOD exhaust shop to fab one up for you.
I've got a CTS on my truck. I can't see anything from ATS working on it. You could probably make something using your original y-pipe. Where it comes back on the right side, curve it up then forward to go over the bellhousing. About a foot or so from the turbo flange it's necked down to a smaller size pipe, I guess to make it fit between the cab seam and the engine. The factory CTS pipe uses a nice Y collector where the two pipes join, but I doubt it makes much difference when it is so restricted up at the turbo. Mine builds all sorts of boost (18 psi), but doesn't have near the power of an ATS system.
