I'm looking into buying an 02 Ranger supercab this weekend. Anyone know if my 75 dog will fit in the back? Odds are I'll have the seats all of the way back.
Anyone have any measurements of the back area with the seats all of the way back. I'm afraid it's going to be tight as-is, but ideally, I'd build a shelf to put the dog on. I'd set the shelf on the useless back seats, and the dog could be across there and I would still have a usable floor. BUT, I'm afraid that since the seats slant backwards, there will be even less room and that won't work.
Anyway, I won't put her in the back. Her kennel is 24" wide, so that about how much room she can turn around in. Looking around online, I figured out that "hip room" is 15". Just curious if that means that from back of the cab to the back of the front seat is also 15"....ideally it would be somewhere close to 24.
I just measured my '97 supercab, which I believe is slightly smaller than an '02 (but not much). With the passenger seat not quite all the way back (too much crap on the floor...) and the seatback in it's most vertical position (which I find most comfortable), there was 18" between the seatback and rear wall at the narrowest point, and about 20" at the level of the little jumpseats.
My guess is that your dog will fit back there but she probably won't be able to turn around easily.
My Irish Wolfhound used to ride in the truck with me all the time, could never keep him away actually. As to comfort level, no it wouldn't be comfortable my dog always wound up sitting in the front seat anyway.
My mom's Australian Cattle Dog rides in the back of her S-10 all the time, again I don't think its a matter of comfort so much as its a matter of "Don't leave me behind!!"
