It appears that you have gotten most of your inquiry handled by another with more free time than I. Regarding the color I, there is nothing listed for that. Check the stamping again, some are light and/or crooked. If it is an L then that would be dark green, a J would stand for red. None of other letters are feasible choices. The other possibility would be a special order color. I had one on a 79 F100 which would not decode; turned out to be a T-bird color. By the manual decoder, a D engine is a 352 four barrel; but the carb section only shows two barrel applications for 352s with the four barrel reserved for other V-8s. Interesting.
