Hey Guys, I bought a 99 4x4 xlt 4dr ranger to help me out with the price of diesel for now. So I'm sure I'll be using this site as well as the psd site.
Here is my real reason for posting. We just got back from Cancun and I was blown away to see Crew Cab Rangers! Full 4doors. I want one. What was up with Ford not bringing this one to the US. The ones I saw were 2wheel drive but sat up as high as a 4x4. I also saw other 4door trucks out there that we don't have(Luvs not that I would want one and others) I'm sure they don't have all the safty stuff but how hard would this be for Ford. I think we got Screwed!!!! Thanks to all who keep our Rangers rolling.Alan
Here's sometheing to make that worse: I think in South America they have diesel 4 banger crewcabs. The Ford company believes that the crewcab Ranger does not have a market here, not since the Explorer Sport Trac. So, go down to Mexico, buy one and bring it back to the states!
Yes... many of those 4dr Rangers are built in North America, but are immediately loaded on boats and shipped to central and south america. To top it off there is a dandy little 4cyl turbo diesel plant in many of them, which I'm sure makes a great towing/work platform.
WHY ARE THESE TRUCKS NOT AVAILABLE IN NORTH AMERICA???? Given the price of fuel lately I bet it would be a popular option.
The crew cab Rangers sold overseas have a significantly shorter bed than the Rangers here. I don't know about you, but the bed in my Ranger is already too short for some things I haul occasionally. I guess if you used your Ranger as an over-glorified people hauler everyday I could see the demand. But unless it comes with at least a 6' bed, I don't see it taking off here.
Diesels aren't more prevelant here because the environmental crowd thinks every vehicle that burns fossil fuels needs to be so clean someone can wrap their lips around the tailpipe and breathe in pure oxygen. The amount of crap the EPA is requiring for 2007 diesel models is absolutely staggering, and extremely overboard. Most manufacturers that build diesels subject to this foolishness have completely dropped their 2007 diesel powered models as a result. It probably won't be until 2008-2009 that they reappear on the market.
[QUOTE=Bart99GT]This has been discussed time and time again.

its built american, but for the company not to give its americans all of the options that are available on a certain model is horrible. im a fisherman, tows a 17 ft flats boat, puts alot of gear in my bed, among other things, could manage with a 4 ft bed, tie things down, keep the gate down..etc... would rather be able to carry two more fisherman in my truck than having 2 more ft of bed space. its a shame.
and yes i did test drive a sport trac, great riding vehicle, smooth, quiet, but for 10 more large to get the same purpose as what the ranger should offer is ridiculous.
Well the Sport Trac is what Ford is offering here. I imagine that they did a little research and found most of the people who wanted the extra passenger capacity didn't mind paying extra for the extra features, so that's what we got. Also saying there's a $10k difference in price is comparing apples to oranges. You can't compare the price of a base XL Ranger regular cab to a XLT Sport Trac. If Ford brought the crew cab Ranger here, I highly doubt you'd be able to get one for less than $19k or so, and that's provided that they offer an XL level one. By the time I optioned out a XLT Super Cab with the same power options as a Sport Trac, I was up to a $22k truck (before rebates). The only strike against the Sport Trac is that you can't get a manual transmission with it.
So guys, anyway you want to float it, the Sport Trac IS your Crew Cab Ranger.

Diesel or not, you can do all that and then some much better in an F-150 SuperCrew.
With gas being $1.95 versus $2.50ish for diesel in my area, I'd probably be ready to drop a diesel ranger at this rate.....I don't have but a 5 minute drive to work, so a diesel won't help at all in the MPG department.
Maybe if your willing to go to mexico pick up a 4door ranger and get it up to par for the us, you might be willing to put a 6ft bed on it. Make the frame longer a driveshaft and a few lines and your rolling ? Maybe I like to toy around more then others.Something to look into??? Thanks for the input .Alan
Alan, I don't think Ford, especially in its current state, is going to have 2 very similar vehicles for sale at the same time in the same market. If both were offered, sales would be cannabalized from the current Sport Trac, which would probably end up with both models being cancelled in a few years due to lacking sales. So they comprimised and called it an Explorer instead of a Ranger.
My assumption is that the people in the US that want something like that to haul more people want the vehicle to look less like a truck and more like an SUV, inside and out.
