I can not get oil pressure light to work on 1965 F-100 with 352. I put new bulb in and did not help. Is there a way to check the sending unit or any thing else I can check? Thanks
Russell oil pressure sending units are relativly cheep, replace the one that you now have, or you can buy a new sending unit and guage, that is what I did.
Trouble shooting a light is a no-brainer. The sender is just a switch to ground. With the engine off you should have continuity between the sender terminal and the engine block. When the engine is running, the ground continuity should be lost. On the dash light, one wire going to the light should have 12 volts when the ignition is on. The problem can only be 1) bad light bulb, 2) no 12 volt source to light bulb or 3) no ground when the pressure is low due to a bad sender or broken wire between the sender and the light.
Take the wire off the sender and (with the ignition switch on and engine not running)ground the wire to the block or oil filter mount. The light should come on. If it does your sender is bad, if not it has to be the 12 volt source to the bulb or the bulb to sender wire.
