Just bought a 2006 F150 Supercrew. I want to install a cat-back exhaust system but I am curious if just replacing the stock muffler with a Flowmaster and not replacing the OEM pipes will give me similar results. All suggestions and input is appreciated. Thanks! Bill
I drove my 05 straight from the dealer to the exhaust shop and had a 40 series installed with all the stock plumbing in tact... I love it... sounds great
performance wise, probably not. You are not making the pipe size any larger, and using a chambered muffler wont gain you much more flow. It will sound much better, but probably wont do too much for power

At the time I was looking more for the Bark than the BITE.... since I have incorporated the Edge Evo and AFE intake... soon to be looking at a better X Hale "BITE".........
Sounds like youre on the right track! The first system i used was a flowmaster, and when i ready for more power, i switched over to magnaflow, and never looked back
I don't like the magnaflow on the V6. I sounds like a beefed up weedeater. I have considered it for the power gains but I still want the sound. I give flowmaster a 10 on sound. My 4.2 has a nice deep sound. I did have improvement in power but mostly in mpg. It gave me another 2 mpg. Thats just my opinion though, it sounds good on the V8's but not loud enough compared to a flowmaster super 40. Wich I am sure flows just as good as the magnaflow. JUST MY OPINION.

"Sounds like a beefed up weedeater", That's some funny stuff. Thanks, needed a laugh !!!
I put in a 14" Magnaflow in the stock piping on my 05 Screw. No power loss and great sound. The Magnaflows are a straight thru design unlike the flowmasters.
Yeah, it'll mostly just be the sound that benefits (although I myself don't even like the sound of Dronemasters. Now, if you changed out the midpipe and all, you might get a little more benefit.
I have heard flows 50 series and my magnaflow 18" side by side on the 4.6 and I like mine better. I like flows alot on other trucks, but so far I haven't heard anything better on the 4.6 and I am not completely happy with the magnaflow... I have it dumped over the axle...
I have a 05 F-150 5.4L w/ single flowmaster muffler, one in two out. Can't beat the flowmaster sound, but does have a nasty drone at highway speeds. Still wouldn't go any other way!!!
