I have a 99 f150 4x4 with a 5.4. Ive had this ongoing problme for a while now. The overdrive light keeps flashing and only when this light comes on my tranny shifts funny. It downshifts very hard at about 20mph, and slams into 2nd gear. It is a 1-2 shift error. First thing i changed was the shift selenoid. That seemed to fix it then the light came on again. Then we changed a connector that is part inside the tranny and part outside. It was covered in oil when outside the tranny and thought there was some kind of short. That didnt fix it. Today i got the Valve body changed, and was sure it would fix it. The light came on before i could even get home and its doin the same thing. Im tired of spending money on this damn truck. Somebody please help me. I dont think there is any way i could need a rebuild since it shifts perfect when the light is not on and there are no shaving in th pan. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Is the tranny setting a code? It sounds like you may have a short or bad ground. I would clean all the grounds and check the wiring harness for bare wires.
If you can get it scanned for codes again and let us know the code we might be able to help more.
Have you checked for wiring problems like fordfan suggested?
Have you had it diagnosed somewhere or have you just been replacing things to try it?
Usually with an electronically controlled transmission you're best off having it diagnosed properly at your dealer or at a good transmission shop. It will probably be cheaper and easier in the long run.
Quite often chain type transmission shops don't have much luck diagnosing these so ask around before you take it in anywhere.
