Has anyone got a 2004 Explorer 4.0 (2x4) FFV that they are using E85 in? If so, what is your mileage?
Most FFVs lose a little power and a little MPG. I thought I read somewhere over at www.e85fuel.com (The national coalition for E85 website) that the Explorer actually got a little more HP and better MPG.
I've run one tank through mine, and it got a poor 9.8 MPG. Does that sound right?
It normally gets 18 to 24 (City/Highway) on regular 89 Octane (E10).
I have the same truck but in 4x4. I've never used E85 since it is not sold anywhere around my parts (upstate NY). However, I've run across the EPA ratings and it was something like 12/15 for E85, iirc. So, what you reported is believable.
