351 m problems

i put a 600 cfm edelbrock and a performer intake on my 351 ive went down to a .80 main jet and .83 secondary and the thing still smells and smokes black but if i go any lower it starves for fuel it has the stock timing setup if i change to an aftermarket chain will it help it or is the carb just to big.

I would recheck the float level, it sounds too high.
