Hello Fellas, I am sure you have seen this one before. I just bouhgt a 2000 Expy last week. The CEL was on when I got it. I asked the previous owner about it because I noticed that the inspection sticker went dead in 2005. He told me that it was giving an EGR code and that he had the whole assembly replaced 6 months ago, but the light came back on within 50 miles. That being said, should I try cleaning the throttle body ports before I do anything else. It is a 4.6 with 100,500 miles.
If the DPFE sensor has already been replaced, then I would check the EGR post in the intake.
You can test the EGR to see if it's working by applying vacuum to the EGR valve when it is idling. It should stumble or die. If it dies, then the port is open and the DPFE sensor is probably bad. This is common on these trucks.
Hey LxMan1. Just wanted to let you know that I did what you said, I put a vacuum on the EGR valve at idle and nothing happened, no change in RPM's at all. So I took the throttle body off and guess what? Both ports were completely blocked, I used a 3/8 drill bit and gently drilled the build up out of the ports and then layed the carb cleaner to it. While I was putting things back together, I disconnected the negative cable on the battery. The CEL is not on anymore, but I need a few more miles to be sure that I got it. I am sure that my wife will take care of that part. It took me about an hour and a half to do the job. Thanks for your help.
