Gas Tank

The mounts for my gas tank in my 64 had a rubber coating on them. Is this coating for noise isolation (the tank vibrating on the mounts), or is it to isolate the tank from the chassis and body (electrical isolation)? I'm getting ready to redo the interior of the truck, and when I had parts chemically stripped, the rubber coating was removed. I'm wondering if I need to figure out a way to put a coating back on.

The rubber on the straps kept the steel straps from rubbing a hole in your tank. I suspect it also was used to prevent sparks between the tank and straps.

Chris, the tank is grounded to the vehicle, so no sparking. You can make a sound insulater by using felt or folded paper between the straps. I had to pull a tank and a lot of the insulation came off, and I haven't been able to tell any difference.
