You need to check for voltage at the inertia switch. Should have 12 volts for 2 seconds when you turn the key to run.

Have you checked the pump relay fuse?

I dont have a wiring diagram for a 92, but on a 1990 (yours might be different)the pump relay fuse is in the power distribution box under the hood, it's fuse one. Have you checked that?

Have you got a wiring diagram or at least the owners manual so you can check that fuse.??

I think it may be referring to the inertia switch. A lot of people misdiagnose bad fuel pump, when in fact the inertia switch has tripped (which is designed to kill the power to the pump in the event of an accident)... sometimes just hitting a large bump or somebody barely bumping into the vehicle can trip this switch. The pump instructions are probably just telling you to make sure the switch isn't tripped (by pressing the reset button which will un-trip it if that was the case).

Does it run now that you've replaced the pump? If it runs don't worry about it.

On the newer rangers the inertia switch is located behind the right side passenger kick panel... I think the older ones may be in the same location. It's a little black box, about 2 inches by 4 inches in size, with an inset red button mounted on the top. All you have to do is feel over it, and make sure the button is pressed (it pops out if the switch has been tripped).

Good luck!

inertia switch swap

On the older rangers the switch is on the passenger side kick panel just above the carpet line.
Also, I found arching on the connectors of the switch. I am going to replace the switch and the connector. A new switch was 16.50 and is a dealer part.
