Fuel Leak

I seem to have a fuel leak somewhere in the engine compartment, as I can smell fuel when I am around the front of the truck, and it just started to leave a little spot in the driveway. Also I noticed that I am getting a fuel smell in the cab whenever i turn on the heater. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this before I go searching under the hood...Thanks!

sounds like the drain valve o-rings. very common problem. check to see if you have fuel in the valley on top of the engine.

There are a few places that leak on our trucks.

fuel bowl water separater valve

Fuel line connections when the oring go bad. These are a square edge oring resembling the rubber tires on toy electric slot cars

The passenger side fuel rail return line will rub through on stock bracket and then finally turn into the batman smoke screen once it cracks all the way through. I know because of 2 trucks with many a miles.

oring kit for valve..10 online from powerstrokeshop.com
fuel line orings are about 27 from dealer
fuel line return is about 50 from dealer.

Troy, there is only one fuel line, the supply, on a stock system. are you talking about the long pipe going from the fuel bowl to the rear of the passenger side head? that is the supply, and it's dead-end from there. you are right, i have heard of several cases where the P-clamp wears through on the line, causing a rupture. you can remedy this by loosening the stud/nut on the head, spreading the clamp, and inserting a piece of rubber or something in the void.

Sounds like the same symptoms I had when my fuel drain valve O-rings went south. If you goto Ford they only sell the whole valve assy. There are some vendors here that sell the O-rings.

Strokin did I word that wrong? I meant the return line from the rear of the pass head to the bottom of the fuel bowl, plus all of the orings on the fuel bowl and its corresponding lines.

Nodakford, there is a dealership in Goshen Indiana called EBEY ford that will sell the oring kit and not rip us off on the whole assembly, only thing is you can find the oring here online for 10 and free shipping. Quicker then dealership.

no fuel in the vally, but there seems to be a little drip from the down tube from the drain valve. If this is the problem how hard is it to change these valves?

If you have big hands it is a PITA but all you need is a T20 and 1/4" ratchet

It depends on which of the 2 o-rings are leaking, it can leak down the tube or onto the valley or both.
