tricky situation, need help

so i have a 94 ford ranger, 2wd, stick shift, and i noticed that when i turn the ignition over where my cluster lights and redio come on that my check engine light does not come on. and when that happens, my car wont start. but when the check engine light comes on like all of the other lights (abs, oil, etc...) my car will start. i read something about the aftermarket alarm affecting it or something. anyone else run into this problem?

Welcome to FTE nextlevelcivic.

After market alarm systems are known for all sorts of mischief.

If you have one, why not pull it's fuse to deactivate it & see if your probem clears up!!!!

My 94 did same thing it was the EEC relay! This relay is under the hood in the fuse box next to the battery. When you take the cover off there are 3 relays if I'm not mistakeing the starting close to the engine is the A/C relay next to it is the fuel pump relay and next is the EEC relay. Switch the A/C relay & the EEC Relay & see if she will start.

If so buy new relay

I am pretty sure the relay positions are under the cover

Hope this helps
