anybody got any ideas/ just noticed strong smell of raw fuel, looked under the hood & can see a small pool of diesel just behind filter & below turbo, but with all the crap , hoses etc can't really see too much ?????
most likely it is your drain valve o-rings seeping oil. it's a pretty common fuel leak spot, the first place i would look at. look for the yellow lever on the back side of the fuel filter housing. sometimes maybe a piece of sand or grit got stuck, and a few cycles of open and close will fix the problem. however, most of the time it is the actual seals it'self leaking. once you get to the area, it's not hard to repair. there are 4 T20 torx bolts, and other than that, its old seals out, new ones in. reach down behind the fuel drain valve lever, and see if you dont come back up with a strong scent of diesel on your fingers.
The o-rings on the drain valve are very common another place to check just to be sure is under the glow plug relay the fuel line to the passenger side head is help in place by a metal "p-clip" that can rub the line if it gets loose (Rare but check while you are there)
Have you done a fuel filter change recently? I noticed a diesel smell about a week after I changed my filter. Popped the hood and climbed up and I had a rather large puddle of fuel in the valley, right under the fuel bowl. At first I thought the valve seals but on closer examination I found that the cap that came with the new filter wasn't sealing correctly. I sopped up the spilled fuel and replaced the new cap with the factory one and no more leak.
