I have a 90 ford f150 with a 351 EFI motor and am having trouble finding some bolt on power
everything i have found has been to extravagent for my work truck such as new cames and stroker kits i just want some simple power other than nitros
Welcome to FTE. Your engine is actually an air pump, so anything that helps it breathe easier will improve performance. Headers and a good free-flowing exhaust, and a cold air induction system are good starting points. There is a sponsor list at the top of the page where you can find just about any bolt on accessory made for Ford trucks.
start with the exhaust. if you cant get the stuff out an intake and such wont help nothing. headers, y pipe and 3" exhaust out stock location would help a bunch. drive that see what you think. if more is needed then you can look into an intake or a kenne bell SC.
I actuall have aftermarket header into a dual stainles exhaust with a k&N air intake
but thank you for all your input.
i was told changing out the computer with one from a slightly newer mustang would change alot is this a good idea or will it be more headake than anything?
Yes to run the A9L mustang computer takes alot of work since it is MPFI and your truck is Batch Fire. If you have a E4OD then you can swap in a lightning computer and use a Tweeker,EEC-Tuner or a SCT chip to change timing, fuel and shift Maps. If you are running manual or a AOD or other non computer controlled trans then swapping out to a Mustang computer really isent that bad. You would need to make or buy a injector wiring harness and do some rewiring. Even with the A9L i would still get a dyno tune or some kind of tuner. Switching to the A9L gives you MAS AIR and then you can run any kind of cam you want without drivability problems, If your truck is SD then you are limited in your cam choices.
For the cost a Tweecer is better than the Mustang computer, unless you get a really good deal and are really up for some wiring. The Mustang computer will be off to start with simply because that tune is set for almost 50 less cubic inches. Read- lean engine, especially at higher RPM. Plus it looks for 2 oxy sensors, gotta fix that problem.
A TwEECer will allow you to adjust your fuel/spark tables to whatever you want. Almost all Ford EEC's are supported, you don't have to switch to a lightning computer.
Look on fordfuelinjection.com it list the EECs that have been cracked and its really only the MAS air broncos and SD & MAF lightnings. Sometimes you can get lucky and use a different processor file but its rare.
Nah, Email Mike Glover, the designer/builder of the TwEECer. Every EEC-IV has been cracked, just not all of them posted on the internet. Either way with a TwEECer it doesn't matter what specific EEC you have, you simply pick the "family" and strategy that applies, and hit read EEC, and all your values are created into a CCF file. Mike has .bin files for most EEC-IV's. I have a '95 L computer here that I had planned to use with a TwEECer until I learned all this. Now I'll prolly simply load an L .bin into my stocker, do some small tweecs, and call it a day.
