Last Wednesday my winch, carrier and skirting came in. The winch is a 15,000 lbs. Warn the carrier is a semi-hidden and the skirting is for the roughly 5" gap from body to bumper. Day one it took me 5 hours and the recruiting of two neighbors to install the winch and carrier(some assembly required on the carrier.). Day two took about and hour(after locating all the tools needed.) to drill and install the skirting. The skirting is a must if you go with this type of winch mount do to the bumper looks like an old Army 5 Ton if you dont have the skirting. I know this because i drove around the next day without it and the friends said that it looked like an old 5 Ton. I have some pictures of it in my gallery if your wanting to see how it looks.
Later much
I really enjoy mine too. I would reccomend the selinoid that warn offers, it allows you to dictate when that 4ga hot wire has power (so if you get into an accident you will not have a 4 gauge wire sparking under someones gas tank.) A blue top optima is another nice part for that winch, they have 5/16 threaded posts just for you to hook your winch too.
Silly question... Do you have a 2d battery for the winch or is it using the engine battery ? Most off-roaders have a 2d battery w/ an isolator. That saves a lot of grief.
NICE rig.
4xsport03, looks great. i am sure that you could have the skirting painted to match the blue. looks like it made the front dip pretty far. i noticed that the tow hooks look like they are sitting out even with the bumper?? did they come with spacers to shim them out. what do the spacers look like? thanks. are they all warn parts..
Yeah Reax, I could definitely be wrong. I thought on the red and maybe yellow, there are the regular posts which are more "robust" and the side terminals are I guess wired for a lower amperage. I have no experience with the blue top.
Also, I just checked the Optima site and can't confirm what I said, so now I don't know where I got that information. It's probably wrong.
RACERX7775, I am thinking of painting the bumper end pieces to match the bumper now that the drilling and stuff is dun and won't scratch after painting. The carrier mounts at the end of the frame where the bumper goes and the kit comes with a piece of flat stock with 6 holes that bolts to original hooks location then goes through the carrier to push the hooks out. The flat stock is also bolted to a piece of channel the fits up in the ends of the carrier. The hooks are actually bolted to both the flat and channel steel inside the carrier. Its hard to explain with out pictures.
To GEORGE FRASIER I just hooked the winch up to the trucks engine battery.
4xsport03 - Was wondering about the battery. I'm nosey about most things. I put in a 2d battery soon after I got my '75, for CB, extra lights, etc. Also noticed your avitar - looks sorta like a Seabee. ?? Been there........ If so, WAY TO GO !
ReAX, what did you do with the stock driving lights that came on the truck? I'm trying to find a way to mount them back on other than buy aftermarket lights. Did you come up with something or just go without?
Thanks
