Hay, I just bought a 2005 F150 fx4 excab with the 5.4 and was woundering the best sounding cat back system for this truck, and if it will give me any noticeable power increase. Thanks, Clings
I would do a search. Best sound is in the ear of the beholder, personally ive found the best power from Magnaflow, and I prefer its sound the best as well.
Well ive tried a few setups, custom flowmaster (hated it) magnaflow SISO catback which was really nice. Now i have a custom true dual setup with a magnaflow DIDO with a tru-x core. Best exhaust you could have IMO, perfect sound, optimal performance. Wish i had done it that way in the first place.
I have had Flowmasters on several vehicles and I like the way it sounds. I do agree though the it resonated too much when I took of the pipes let it dump out under the bed. Now I have a super 40. It flows better than the regular flowmaster and it doesn't resonate inside nearly as much with it dumping out under the bed. I have noticed that all of the vehicles I put Flowmasters on ran much better afterwards. I really perfer the sound of turndown exhaust versus dual or side exit etc. Flowmaster offers a wide variety of different mufflers. Some are very quite. I like Magnaflow as well. Its definitely just about as good. Just don't go with glasspacks. Thats my opinion.
I chose the gibson dual extreme setup. Sound is nice and tight - there when you want it, but you can still pull up to church in the truck. Gibson has sound clips of their different exhaust systems on their website www.gibsonperformance.com which helped me decide. I didn't want an obnoxiously loud exhaust. I am very pleased with the Gibson product.
I have a freind with the magnaflow sido, that exits from the rear, and it sounds like my 2004 Mach1. Not too loud at idle, and not much more cabin noise than stock, but sounds great. It does hum a bit at around 1800rpm, could be his install tho. I have also heard the Roush sido, and it sounds a little more aggressive, but still not much noise inside the truck when driving. It is hard to tell someone what sounds good tho LOL

the sound was good down low, but at higher RPMs the sound just got really raspy, more of a whooshing noise than loud, and there was a noticeable drop in torque. Ever since then ive been using magnaflow mufflers on everything
