DPFE Switch Revisited - HELP!!!

Folks, Ive posted here before, about this subject but I cannot find the thread, so Im starting this one.

First off, I have a 2001 Ford F-150 V-8 4.6.

I got the P0401 error code. So after help on these boards I decided to replace my DPFE sensor, cheap & easy.

The parts store sells me WELLS EGR Valve Pressure Sensor (P/N su2108).

Looks just like what is in the Haynes Manual (pg 6-15 - fig 5.38). see photo:

So I pop the hood & start looking for it. I cant find the thing on my truck.

I see an area with mounting bolts that are spaced properly but nothing is there. see photo:

So, I go to the Ford Dealership and he shows me where it is. See photo:

What the heck is the part I was sold? Is what is in the last photo what needs to be changed? Im completely confused. Any help?

I believe that the DPFE sensor is a dealer only item. At least that is what I was told . I wasn't aware that the 4.6L motor has an egr either. Dealer told me the 5.4L doesnt.

there are 2 different type DPFE sensors. the large one that you first posted and a small one. Your vehicle requires the small one. When I went to ford to get mine they had both.

napa also sells them, i just replaced mine and it was only like $32 and some change. someone told me that they are about $75 at the dealer.

also there is 2 different ones like tapout said. one for the earlier model 01's and then the later 01 models

Thanks for the info.

I bought the part at Autozone. That was the only DPFE sensor they had, I guess.

Anyone have a catalog numer or a Manufacturers Part Number?

Is the small one like my truck has called something different?

I was really hoping this was going to be an easy fix. Now Im frustrated & feel stupid!

It's still a DPFE.
You might want to remove it and take it into the parts store and see if they can cross over the part numbers on it.
Or just go to your dealer and get the latest, updated, genuine Ford part.

It was amazing at how easy it was to replace, once I got the correct part.

If anyone else comes across this issue........

Even though I have an '01 F150, the DPFE sensor is an '02, and $22 cheaper!
