You guys that have done a steering swap might be able to help me. I am looking for a steering assist system off a 73 or early 74 F250 4x4. This is the garrison type. I need the control valve, cylinder and the bracket that mounts the cylinder to the axle. I don't care if it leaks, but I don't want anything that has been physically damaged (you know, no bent rams, nothing cracked, or stripped out) so that I can rebuild it. Please PM me if you have one you want to part with.
Found some information out. The reason the bendix type assist will not mount to a 73 and early 74 highboy is that ford changed the dimensions of the steering systems slightly in the later years. The pitman arm is slightly different, the drag link is slightly longer, and the steering knuckle arm was changed a bit after the 74 model. In other words, the bendix controll valve is longer overall than the garrison valve. Also the bendix cylinder is longer than the garrison cylinder.
I installed a 76 closed knuckle front end on my 74 to do the conversion to disk brakes. I did not have any problems with anything lining up. Are you sure that between 74 and 75 they changed? It seems to me that your options would be a little broader if you were able to use a 75 - 77 1/2 system.
I have seen several highboys at my local picknpull autowreckers. Haven't been there lately but will check next time I am in town for what your looking for.
I just yanked my complete ram setup off my 74 to convert to real PS, but its
a garrisson setup from my F100. I dont know if they are the same, or if they would work.....?????
Actually, that garrison system was used on the F100 up to F250 in 73 through mid 74. So yes, that is the same system. Ford changed in Mid 74 to beef up the steering, that is when they went to the Bendix system on the F250's.

I will post a pic of what I have tomorrow morning, So you can see if its what you need. I have everything, ram, valve, hoses, brackets, nuts bolts, steering box, all that . Its all just scrap to me, (tho the valve was rebuilt just a couple of years ago) and the only reason it ain't in the trash is because I figured a fellow FTE member might have use for it. I'll post up when pics are up...
