hey guys im down to getting ready to put in a smog pump in my 77 f150 4x4 since its not a california vehicle it didnt come with any of the smog equipment (assuming) so here i am in california needing to get my truck smogged and am wondering if anyone has some kind of diagram or directions as to where the vacuum lines go ive got all the vacuum lines but do not know where exactly they go so if anyone could get back to me on this id appreciate it
Speaking from experience, because when I brought my Grandpas 77 F150 from Oregon I was a little worried also. You don't need to worry about the smog pump unless it had one originally. If it didn't then don't worry. What you do need for the smog test is:
1 - Original air cleaner with thermostatic element.
2 - Fresh air inlet hose on the end of air cleaner
3 - Heat tubing to air cleaner from manifolds - Can't remember actual name,
but its on the passenger side of engine
4 - Charcoal cannister
5 - EGR Valve
6 - Valve covers must vent back into air cleaner
7 - PCV must be in place an connected properly
8 - And of course all vac lines must be installed correctly
9 - If it never had cats don't worry but if it did and their gone - Reinstall them
Pretty much what the other guys said. To get smogged in California, the vehicle needs to have all of the original stuff as it came from the factory. Me? I have a '76 F250 Super Cab from Washington state that I smogged and registered in California with a Carter AFB carb on it. It has a PCV valve and TAC (thermostatic air cleaner), no evap system, no egr and no air pump. On the 8100 lb trucks with 460's which mine is, the fed emissions equipment was minimal.
