You have either a 223 or 262. The valve lash (clearance), for both intake and exhaust and for either engine is 0.019" Essentially, you just need to remove the valve cover and use a feeler guage to check the lash (clearance). The actual adjustment mechanism should be self-evident when you look at the rocker. Be sure to perform this procedure when the engine is cold and make sure that both valves are closed as you adjust the valves for each cylinder. Plan on replacing your valve cover gasket at this time. I hope this helps and good luck.
An old timer told me a generic way to adjust valve lash that works on any solid lifter 4 stroke engine.
Know the firing order, which cylinders are what number, and the lash clearance specs. and identify all the exhaust valves.
Turn the engine over by hand in the direction of running rotation until you see ANY exhaust valve JUST START to open note WHICH cylinder this valve is on then GO TO THE NEXT CYLINDER IN THE FIRING ORDER.
The lifters on this cylinder will be on the base circle of the cam and you are ready to adjust this cylinders valves.
Then turn over by hand until the exhaust valve on the cylinder you just adjusted starts to open and adjust the next cylinder in the firing order the same way until you have done them all.
Incidently all inline six engines have the same firing order 153624 have fun.
