Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought the LED's in the Caravans were pimp as heck!
How about taking a trip to the junkyard and finding a wrecked Caravan and ripping the overhead console out and taking a look-see. Don't the BMW's have the same setup? I think a weekend junkyard trip is in order for this weekend.
The thing about the Caravan LED is that it's pretty much hidden from view of the passengers, and I've been trying to think of a way to hide a LED in the same manner.
can it be done for people without an overhead console?
and if not. how hard is it to install the overhead console with temp readout afterwards. i wish my truck had it, but it doesn't and it wasn't goign to be a dealbreaker. i was lucky to find the left over with all of my other important specs.
i do wish i had the outside temp though. and more storage is always a plus.
Radio Shack sells LED's and a 1/4" led holder that may fit the bill. If it's too bright, add a small resister..
Been a busy couple of days for me. Haven't been around to check in on you guys. I got my LED at Radidio Shack but have not been back to see what else they have. I also want to see how bright the rating is for the one I got. It is not really bright enough for me. I may take Munkey's adivce and hit the boneyard for a smashed Caravan console LED. That one is plenty birght. I like how it is hidden too. That was my intention on my little project but when that tall LED didn't fit, I didn't want to leave it half done. As it is now, it is only half a$$ed.
I will keep looking around and see if I can find the PERFECT LED for my rig and let you other wierdos that want to do the same thing know what and where I found it.
As far as putting a console in a truck that doesn't have one, I would not have the first clue. I thought about taking down the headliner to run my wires there and maybe to find a running light harness to tap into but then snapped to my senses. Plus I couldn't get that first button out! So I don't have a clue what (besides sheet metal) is above the head liner.
