diablosport predator u7165 experiences?

Has anyone had any experience with the diablosport predator with the 6.0? Is it able to disable the egr, I can't find that info in their description. I don't want a tuner that is hardcore, just something to give the extra pop and possibly a little better milage(I know all the arguments about this, please refrain). I've also been looking at the sct excalII and really like that unit as well, just found the predator and can get it for about $100 less right now and am looking for experiences with both along with pros and cons of both. All input is greatly appriciated and I thank you for your time.

I am running the predator on my 2005 PS. It does not disable the egr. I have been running it in the 65 HP setting with no problems. But I do baby the thing , never let bost go above 30 psi. I have see a the milage go up about 2 mpg in this setting, never tried the 100 HP

I have been using the preditor for about eighteen months and with it set at 100 hp, I get 21 mpg on long trips and I regularlly get over 600 miles to a fill-up. If I start to play, the fuel ecomony drops off. Hope you will be as happy with the predator as I am.

As for the EGR, you must disconnect it electrically by pulling the plug, the EGR is located in front of the oil and fuel filters on top and in front of the engine. Look in the must reads at 6.0 for a more detailed procedure, its really simple.

So overall you're happy? How about the tranny shift files, do like them? That's one reason I was looking at the sct is because people say they like the way it shifts vs some of the others. Glad to hear about the mpg gain, every little bit helps these days!

toddyw, thanks for your input. I know how to manually disconnect the egr, but my problem is that I live in the wonderfull(he says with slight sarcasam) state of California and my engine light comes on. Trying to figure out a way to bypass it without the cel coming on. Anyone have a trick for doing this? I appriciate any input I can get, thanks.

I'VE UPDATED MY PREDATOR U-7165 TO THE NEW PROGRAM U-7165 PCM 6 0-8r13 LAST WEEK AND I'VE SET IT TO THE NEW 60 H.P. SETTING AND THE DIFFERENCE IS UNBELIVEABLE FROM THE OLDER PROGRAMS THAT DIABLO HAD ,BEFORE THE SHIFTS WERE BRUTAL ON THE TRANNY SO I HAVE NOT RAN WITH THE PREDATOR , BUT NOW , NO LEARNING CURVE ON THE SHIFTS AND SMOOTH AS FACTORY,AND WOW ! I ALMOST FORGOT HOW MUCH POWER THE 6.0 CAN PRODUCE!

I am using the Diablo Predator with the current updates from Diablo (60 HP). Lots of power, shifting smooth as factory, very little if any increase in fuel economy. After reading in this forum it seems that most people here favor the SCT. I would like to try it to compare, must save some cookie money.

I have had my Predator for 2 years and love what it has done for the truck. I run the 60hp setting with the speed limiter disabled. I average 16-18 in town and 19-21 on the highway. It is a big difference over stock in the shifting and Tow-haul down shifting. With the Predator, in Tow Haul the truck slows down as soon as you let off the accelerator and brake. The Ford program requires you to be under 45mph before it assists. I have not used the 100hp tune, but with the 60hp economy tune and no speed limiter it will keep up at 115.

Ditch the pukator and get an SCT. The difference is unbelieveable. I've toasted 2 sets of headgaskets with the Pukator and could never make as much HP or MPH as with the SCT. If you get the right tuning person you can get any tune you want basically from MPH to GOFAST. PM me and I'll hook you up with the right person

i have had the predator on my 2006 ps now for about 1 year, and i run a 60 hp custom tune all the time and it adds a lot of takeoff power to the truck, i hate driving the truck stock now because i am so used to having that extra power, have had a few minor program download problems but diablo help me thru that, i have ran the 100hp tune 1 time, when i punched it from the take off all i saw in the rearview was white smoke from the tires and huge black smoke clouds, and it shifted thru 4 gears while the tire were spinning, but they say add some larger exhaust if u r gonna run the 100hp tune to keep the egt's down, when i am towing 10000 travel trailer i run the diablo towing tune and it makes alot of difference as well especially on hills and inclines with the load, when i slow down the diablo makes the trans. start downshifting sooner to help slow down the truck and trailer so u dont have to use the brake as much, i have gained 1 mpg with the diablo, i am pleased with the diablo so far

I've run the Pred on my '04 F350 with the 45 HP tune. Overall I like it very much over stock as far as towing perfiormance is concerned.

I tow tow loads: One a 6,000 pound boat on the rear hitch. Second, a 12,500 pound fifth wheel camper.

The real difference over stock is seen with the camper. (I often tow the boat out of tow-haul mode, "if not in the hills".)

I also leave the same Pred Program in for daily driving..to the local Building supply store and all.

Yup, I have to take the program out and restore default factoiry settings when in for service which is a total pain in the butt.

Apparently the Pred. does not mess initially with the shift learning ability of the tranny. But anytime you reinstall the program the tranny will slam and make hard shifts untill you drive it over a few weeks with different loads. After that, the system seems to "better learn" the sequence and required harshness of the shifts and thinks seem to smooth out.

Engine braking decnding a hill also seems to be better than stock.

Would I buy again? Probably not.

Would I buy again if the Pred stored the "learned" tranny shift points when unloading the program. Definately yes.

What I like most is the ability to do this by software only. No mounted hardware except what's in the hand-held programmer itself.

I did run around with the 65 HP tune when empty for a week or so. (If you like unloaded speed...awesome.)

Haven't tried the 100 HP tune. Diablo says it requires additional instruments and mods to avoid potential harm.

Note: latest Ford factory tune on my '04 really isn't that bad and I have towed all loads with it as well. I just much prefer the 45 HP tune with my very heavy load.

Can't say about MPG improvements, I have not compared DP against stock.

No experience with any other tuner at all.

mad i have taken my 2006 ps back to the dealer 3 times for warranty work, i run the predator on my truck as well they have never said anything to me, i put the factory program back in before i take it in, cause that can definetly void the warranty....but i have been told by my friend who is a fors sevice supervisor at a large dealership that they can still tell whether or not u have had a programmer on this truck or not, but they have never said anything to me.

I had the Predator on my '04, always on 65 H.P. setting. Removed it at my recall reflash and never upgraded / reloaded. With that said, I was amazed at the performance just at that setting. I never had any issues.

Now the truck is gone and the Predator sits on my work bench...

Not a problem with the dealer on warranty service yet. Never asked the service dealer about a having a programer, and they have never questioned me about this either.

From other posts here; this is what I do:

I use the Pred. to install original backup of the Ford program. If possible I drive the truck to get Ford codes because the Pred will mask certain diagnostic codes (I have seen this). Then I disconnect the batteries for about five minuites and take to the dealer with my complaint.

I guess they drive it and can confirm through whatever Ford has available the present engine condition.

Last time I had a situation, I immediately loaded the Ford program back in and that was when I could read diag. codes from the Pred.

Took the truck into the dealership with my hand written codes and they replaced the turbo. No questions asked. I guess their own diagnostics said turbo?

I've been mostly happy since their repair.
