Well apparently even though my truck is a 2004 5.4 SD it was made in July 2003 and has the older style 2 valve heads and Diablo does not make a programmer for that engine/truck. The valve body sounds nice for when I get off of warranty but according to the manufacturer it will not do anything to help when my truck shifts, just how (meaning firmness) it shifts. I will have to find out if one of the manufactures makes a programmer for my engine/truck because that sounds like the best route as long as I can use 89 octane gas in it, meaning it has to have programming for all three grades of black gold!
Veronesse one of the suppliers for Diablo contacted me and we spoke today, he was very nice and called the manufacturer for me while I was on the phone with him. They do not make it for my truck, engine combo. I believe it might be because even though I have the same block and heads as a 2003 I get the impression that there are other changes to the 2004 model year trucks, maybe the computer, I don't know! But if the manufacturer says they don't make it for the truck I am stuck
Did you give them your computer code? Your truck may be new enough for it be on the drivers door near the windshield, or you'll have to pull the ECM to read the sticker. Verify that they don't have one for your calibration and a 2002 year truck.
ok will check that out, they did sound pretty definet about it but it would be worth checking again thanks
also anyone else running any of the other programmers, or maybe a trans tuner from someone like Banks?
check out the catalogs of sonnax, alto. and many others.you will find that many shops just repackage a part from one of the many companys.
for the 4r100 there is not much one has to do to improve the shifting.it really takes more time to drop the pan and acumulator valve body then to install the over size pressure valve. which is held in by a simple snap ring from inside the main body housing http://www.bulkpart.com give this site a look over. it's one of many that could help you save big bucks on mods and repairs to your trans
it will open your eyes big time.
as to programers for a gas powered ford.there are many companies out there and every person has his or her favorite company. the one i use after many many trys .is form sctflash www.sctflash.com and is their excal2 purchased from a dealer close by your home. use their zip code finder and have that near by guy custom program for you . this is esp. more needed for some one living in the high country mid west. work with that dealer as he knows best what works best in the area.
i can do a custom tune here in new jersey and not have it work as well if it's used out west in higher areas such as denver. hope you get what i mean.
plug and play is just that. plug and hope it works. many time it is yes it's great some times it's not
Capt PM with more info on this if you would, and what do you mean about there is not much one has to do with improving the 4R100 thanks Bill
what i mean is it's so simple to mod up. takes more time to drain and refill then stick in the valve or a full shift kit. as to how simple some one else just said it change the acumulater valve. shop around it can gotten cheap.
The factory tech is so much more than a shift kit. I sell transgos at work and had my heart set on one until I researched it a little.
Shift kits give you springs, washers, seals and a drill bit to open up the accumulator for more volume. The valve body has the same done, plus it has a new "power valve" similar to what bully dog sells and there was something else as well. Not to mention, it's a 30 minute job with the only non-basic hand tool you need is torque wrench.
the TransGo shift kit i have(E4OD/4R100-HD-2) DID come with a new plungers! actually it came with 4: 2 for the accumilator valvebody, & 2 for the main valvebody. to include new springs and a seperator plate for the acc. valvebody for different shift firmness.
i first ordered the BullyDog, and when i got it, it was a plunger and 3 springs for $58.oo...............sent that one back. got a TransGo "shift improver" kit that included 4 springs and a plunger...........sent that one back, and payed the difference to get the ACCTUAL Heavy Duty shift kit. there is one more above the one i have that you have to REMOVE the guts of the trans to install (E4OD-HD-2-TUGGER i belive)! i didn't want to go THAT far so i ordered the HD-2 version ($76 after the difference of the other kit!
now hopefully this weekend i don't have to work so i can get it in there! if it's any thing like my TransGo for my 4R100 trans should take about 1h 45min or so, debending on the BSing time!!
