I order chrome front tow hooks from EBay for my 00 F350 dually last week and it is due to arrive tomorrow !!! My question is, do I need to remove the grill and the bumper to get access to replace the hooks? What size are those nuts/bolts? I have some simple tools as of now… Any untoward risks related to Airbag sensor/Airbag (is the sensor any where close by)?
Just pull the bumper off and you will see the 3 bolts per tow hook. I've had mine off and don't recall any sensors in the way. If you have factory fog lights make sure and unplug them before you get the bumper in your hands. Holding the bumper in one hand and trying to unplug the foglights with another can prove difficult. It's pretty simple.
I just put chrome hooks on my 06. I was able to gain access for the socket by going between the bumper and the plastic air dam. I did have to get longer bolts for the chrome hooks. The bolts were metric. Good luck
I recently installed a set of hooks that had been chromed. My understanding is that the factory ones rust quickly.
Anyhow...you do not have to pull the bumper. I used a universal and extension and was able to do it. My Ex has that "blocker beam" that I had to swing out of the way that an SD may not have. My factory hooks has the threads in them, the ones that were chromed had nuts welded to them, so I needed the longer bolts.
