I am considering putting a 429 thunderjet from a 69 t-bird into my 65 f100 (300i6 4 spd). It has just been rebuilt and I can get it for a great deal. Will the tranny from the car fit as well? (automatic I think but haven't checked yet as this engine just came available to me) What problems might I have putting this engine and transmission into my truck? At the same time I will be changing over the front end with parts from a late 70's f150.
Anyone have specs or comments on this engine? Any help greatly appreciated.
ok here goes my 2 cents... i just put a 460 in my 66... (same thing as a 429 in a 65) you will need special motor perches. they come on 3/4 ton trucks up to 79 i think.. or u can use motor perches from 360/390 but then your motor mounts on your block will have to be changed.. to a flat one.. i dont konw the part # right now but u can e-mail me and i'll look on mytruck.... the transmission crossmember will have to be moved a little (no prob) and your driveshaft will have to be shortned. you will have to cut your fram if you plan to use cast iron exhaust mantifolds not a lot just about 2 1/2 inches... (another excuse to use headers)
and as far as yoru breaks go... pull the whole i beam... its easy one bolt in the back adn one at the top of the spring.. (springs come out too) and one at the end of the i beam.. and use this chance to run new steel brake lines.. and mount yoru brackets where yoru rubber hose from the caliper, meets hard line.. no prob dude... if you have any questions e-mail me at bar5516(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
