I have been using Diesel Kleen in the silver bottle since I purchased my F250 back in August. I live in Michigan and was wondering when would you guys think I should start using the white bottle. How low does the temp have to go for me to start needing it. The truck is ready for winter otherwise, I just installed the block heater cord, the pictures in the tech folder really helped me out. The directions that came with the cord weren't worth the paper they were printed on!
I'm also kind of new to owning a Diesel and couldnt find anything in the manual saying to use Diesel kleen. What are the bennefits of using this product.
Remember.... that the white bottle adds "anti-gel" additives that the grey bottle does not and Keith forgot to list as a "benefit" of PowerService.
The cetane boost is greater in the "grey bottle" and they reduce the cetane improves in the white bottle to make room for the "anti-gel" additives.
I use grey until the temps get to around mid 30's on a consistent basis... and sometimes I mix 50/50% anyway to use up the last of the grey stuff that I have still open.
Also works great (silver) full strenght for cleaning egr valves.
What is the "silver stuff"... do you mean the grey bottle we are discussing?
How does it (whatever it is) clean EGR valves?
Here is a cut and paste from their website:
Diesel Kleen® +Cetane Boost® is the premier “performance” product on the market. Diesel Kleen is loaded with cetane, detergency and lubricity additives to keep your diesel engine running at peak performance.
If you are looking for an antigel, Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost is the product you should be using. Like Diesel Kleen, Diesel Fuel Supplement contains a cetane and detergency package. However, it is not as concentrated as Diesel Kleen to allow for the superior antigel in Diesel Fuel Supplement.
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Compliant — contains less than 15 parts per million (ppm) sulfur
Effective in all diesel fuels, including ULSD and biodiesel
Contains Slickdiesel® for maximum fuel lubrication — protects fuel injectors and pumps against accelerated wear from Low and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels
Boosts cetane up to 4 numbers — engines run smoother with less power lag, reduced emissions and faster cold starts
Reduces visible exhaust emissions (HC, PM) up to 50 percent and reduces NOx and CO emissions up to 28 percent
Cleans dirty fuel injectors — exceeds Cummins L10 Injector Depositing Test Superior specifications
Decreases fuel consumption up to 8 percent — fuel savings exceed cost of additive
Reduces piston and combustion chamber deposits — reduces soot blow-by and engine oil thickening
Increases power — reduces need for downshifting during high-load conditions
Exceeds industry standards for thermal stability — improves diesel fuel’s resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation
Stabilizes stored fuel

Ok, Gray bottle. A little color blind. As far as cleaning I was refering to using diesel kleen instead of brake cleaner and other solvents when egr is removed for cleaning. Cleaned mine and it seemed to disolve the carbon and soot real well, back to shiney and almost new looking.
Would cleaning the egr remove the cricket sound that I hear between 1700 - 2000 rpms after the engine is at operating temperatures? I realized that this has been asked before but I was just wondering about what cleaning the egr would have as a result. Thanks. Haulin350
