Engine Change Out

This is the first time I have posted on this site so try and take it easy on me. I have a 94 F-150 that the engine has blown. It has a 302 5.0 L engine. I have found another 302 from an 89 <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">lincoln</st1lace></st1:City> would it be feasible to use in my truck and would the bolt patterns be the same? Please help me losing a truck to drive is like losing a friend!

Yes.. it is the exact same motor except for the camshaft. Your 94 could/should be a roller cam and the '89 is likely a smaller flat tappet, which means the older motor won't be as strong. What is the '89 engine from and what happened to your 5.0?

If you are talking about the header pipe to the exhaust manifold then no I do not think they will match up.
It may be a little hard to get the old exhaust manifold bolts out with out twisting them off.

If you are talking about some other manifold then let us know the name of the manifold in question.

If the Lincoln was a Mark VII that would be a 5.0HO... which is a very good motor. You will want it complete with the Lincoln computer and engine wiring harness. The HO will be identified on the plate on top of the intake. You can use either the truck or car exhaust manifolds, whatever fits better with your exhaust system. If this is a town car however then it will be a plain jane 5.0. Swap the cam from your truck motor into this engine before installing.

forget about this and do a 5.8 swap. you get more power, same mileage and will take you the same amount of time as replacing your 302 with another 302.

Yes - do what he said. It's not any more work to get a substantial performance upgrade, and the mileage isn't really any different either. Besides, that 302 won't have the low-end needed to move that truck. Car 302's had different lifters to move the powerband up higher where a car's is supposed to be. After you're done with that swap, I don't think you'd be happy with the results.

exactly, i made this mistake with my bronco, i put a car 5.0 in it and it didn't work out to well. If you want to keep your 302 your gonna have to find a truck with one in it, but a 351 isn't a bad upgrade either. more power, same mileage, i'd go with the 351

I now have both 351 and 302 . The 351 is in F150 4x4 sc sb truck with a fresh ford rebuild and pulls better when loaded but I don't like them 13 -mpg compaired to the high 15 mpg with 302 in a F150 4x4 sc lb . I drive 500 + miles a week and 2 mpg adds up. But I don't have a lead foot and the truck has 31 10.00 on them. But good luck any way you do it .
