I have a 04 F-150 screw 4x4 that I recently got and when I switch it to 4wd it makes a strange noise, and when I had it at my local ford dealership aligning the front end(just put a leveling kit), and they checked it out, and said it sounds like the 4x4 solenoid/module is going out or is bad... anyone have any problem like this, and know of a fix?
If the truck is under warranty, just explain the problem and maybe even show the TSB. If its not under warranty and your sure your symptoms are the same as listed in the TSB, just buy the solenoid and install yourself. I believe it was either $48 or $68. You may have them show you exactly where its at, it'll take less than 20 mins to change out, at least thats about how long it took my dealer.
MBB, follow my posts, I just had this done about 2 weeks ago, and then when I got home (it was raining) I opened the hood, and much to my surprise, the way the water was running off the windshield cowl, it was draining right on top of the new solenoid!!!! Well, I went and bent up a nice sheet metal cover to cover the top of the solenoid...problem fixed
