Well after a few weeks of seaching the internet and seeing all sorts of overpriced junk, questionable used engines, old hot rod engines and even French Military engines, I bit the bullet and ordered a re-built 1952 Flathead from Precision Engine Rebuilders out of Houston. It wasn't exactly cheap, but at least I'll get new valves, guides, pistons, rings, etc.etc.etc. It should be ready in four to six weeks. They say they have a 62 year old re-builder with 45 years experience who works on the antiques. The cost damage was about $3,000 with $250 for shipping, and get this....no tax (at least not until the State of California finds out!!!). Some folks were asking $1,500 for used motors, and after a rebuild I would be up in the same cost range. Oh well, isn't that what Home Equity is for anyway???? Don't tell my wife or she will want to go out and get some really useless stuff like furniture or rugs. I'll keep you updated.
Joe, we won't tell if you don't. I would imagine if half of the wives knew what was spent on our old iron, we wouldn't get to do nearly as much as we do to them. My other half and I have separate accounts, so that keeps the peace when it comes to money(I have mine and she has her's)
Aw come on Nuthin. Don't you have a significant other you have to share money related ideas with? We all go through this at one point in life, I just have the good fortune of haveing a lady that lives within her means (with her own paycheck). I'm glad to see that we have a lady trucker here and hope you can add some insight that we might otherwise overlook.
Jeff
