Question removing the "fuel filter shield"

Any down side to removing the "shield" (and the accompaning bracket) that sits just in front of the fuel filter and leaving it off? My back doesn't appreciate bending over the engine for any length of time and my wallet is too cheap to pay someone else to change the filter!

As far as I know, its just there to protect the fuel bowl and look pretty. I don't see any harm in leaving it off.

I left the shield off today and I'm taking off the bracket tomorrow. Make those filter changes go quicker!

i have a cover and bracket that i took off when i did my fuel system, there is no filter bowl to protect. the cover is painted blue "powerstroke" on it, and it's the 2001+ design, not the earlier design.

The upper heater hose will "flop" a little without the bracket. I just put in some loom for protection when I ditched the cover and braket

Sure, it's just laying 'round the shop. You want it? The bracket too?

I just went out and took the brackett off... the "shield" is nowhere to be found. I looked all over the shop and DID find those bandsaw blades I've been looking for but no shield. Maybe I'll trip across it in the next few days. Grrrrrr.
