thanks fro the responses on the '63 guys. didn't get a chance to look at it but i found something else...
i saw a '65 , i think f-150, don't remember, but it was a custom cab, 427, auto and it looked really good. it was undercoated, very little rust, bottom of the tailgate, and a little on the hood was all i saw. other than that it looked great. It was at a dealer though and he was asking $6000. there was a little puddle of coolant on the manifold, probably from the thermostat gasket, and the other gaskets probably would need to be replaced also. the windshield was cracked and needs replacement... whats a good starting price or what's this thing worth? interior was spotless and this definitely isn't original. thanks.
Fordfan79, Better! Rust will be in the same places as on a 64, so look carefully. Is the undercoat fresh? You can hide a lot of rust under a nice thick undercoat. For this money the truck should have power disk brakes, dual master cylinder, power steering, R134 air conditioning, stereo or cd and NO obvious mechanical problems. The antifreeze puddle could be a gasket, it could also be a cracked intake. The lights, exhaust, paint, brakes, suspension, and tires should be good to excellent. For this asking price I am surprised the dealer didn’t have a new windshield installed? By your description I think this price is a little high by about a grand. Check with the BBB on this Dealer, any complaints? Check out the web site www.autotrader.com then click on collector cars and fill in the blanks. There is a nice orange 65 listed for $6K in Florida. I’d buy it myself but I have a truck.

Fordfan79, if it really has a 427 than that’s worth the price alone! Look low on each side of the block skirt for the three cross-bolts. If they ain’t there it ain’t no 427.
The last time I looked, CPI said a 65 in condition 3 was worth about $5800. Their condition 3 is virtually a perfect stock truck needing nothing but gas to drive it away. Then subtract the cost of getting it back to a 3 and you have an idea of its current market value. But a 427 is a long way from stock so your personal preference is going to be a huge factor in this situation.
