Has it set the check engine light yet, or have you pulled for any codes?

It could be a number of things causing the surge problem. Gonna need some more info to help you better.

Welcome to the forum.. The 1st thing I would do is change the fuel filter and also change the oil/filter if you have not done this in awhile. Also add something like Diesel Klean or Stanadyne additive to the fuel.. and see if it will fix the problem.. I am sure someone else on the forum can suggest other things that might be causes your surging.. Just a note.. My engine was surging and romping when cold and I switch from dino oil to Shell Rolletta T Synethic 5W40 and all my romp romp went away.. Engine runs smoother and quieter now..

Not to highjake the thread or anything but do you run the synethic 5w40 year around or do you run 15w40 in the summer seen where people say run the 15w40 in the summer then switch to the synethic 5w40 in the winter.Just curious as to what is the best to run year around.

I run it year round. As long the oil meets Ford's API Service recommendatiions, which it does, there is no reason not too..It is now CI-4/SJ, SL, which is higher than Ford recommends. Shell is about ready to upgrade to "CJ-4/SJ,SL" soon (Ford manual says CG-4/SH..) . The "5" works great for cold weather and the "40" works great for the summer heat, the way I figure it..You can also extend your oil changes abit which compensates alittle for the higher cost..I understand the synethic is better for the turbo also..

Clint thanks for the info I have been thinking about running the synethic but really did not feel like changing to different oil in the summer then back in the winter. It sound like synethic may be the way to go. Again sorry for the thread highjack.

I have a similar surging problem. Took it to the dealer today, no codes, nothing showed up on the diagnostics. They suggested a new fuel filter and a injector flush to the tune of $341.00. I told them that I just replaced the fuel filter a week ago. Asked them what if I sprung for the work and that did not fix it. No answer.. They grasp at straws at our expense. I still have about 15000 miles left on the warranty. I will put some of the cleaner concentrate in a couple of tanks and see if it goes away.....or drive a little faster

Injector flush is useless on our diesels. Don't go for it. You'd do a better job cleaning the injectors by running a tank of bio diesel than anything else. Good thing you didn't waste your money on that.

Did your truck set a code for this? Normally when the pedal starts to go, the SES light will flash for an instant and you have to be watching the dash to even see it. However it will normally store the DTC.

Good to see that it's fixed. Hopefully this thread will help others with similar issues.
