Front Disc for a 73

I spend most of my time on the diesel or slick forums but a friend of mine has a 73 bronco that he would like to put front disc brakes on. I am sure this has been asked many times but I would sure appreciate any help, advice , or links what is the best way to go . He uses this as a everyday driver with a trip to the woods for hunting or fishing once in a while and is totally bone stock.

Thanks Dave

Another 'cheap option' is to use the entire 'knuckle-out' assemblies off a 76-79 F-150 or 78/79 full-size Bronco D44 axle. You can usually buy those for about $100-150 bucks at a U-pullit. You swap them at the ball joints. The only 'mod' that is required along with that is a slightly longer tie rod assembly (cut-down F-150 assembly is commonly used there)

Or you can use the tapered adaptor bushings and use the stock Bronco steering linkage.

I prefer the GM setup simply because I think the caliper and slide design works much better than the stock Ford calipers. But the swap to disc brakes is such great improvement, it is a minor point.

The GM way is simplest way to go. There are a ton of Jeep Wagoneers in bone yards using same parts. You need to buy caliper with hose, backing plate and spindle. Use your existing knuckles and other parts. Buy new rotors from Autozone or Orileys for less than $35 complete with splined hub. Use a combination valve from any disk F100-250 thru early 80's. Almosty any truck master cylinder for manual disk brakes will work if lines are on correct side. Great time to replace those rubber lines from master cylinder with all steel ones. I bend all of my lines and they look like modern factory replacement pieces. Just a little time and common sense applied will make this swap a welcome change.
