Help MLPS or nuetral safety switch

First off I want to thank you for all your help I have done a lot of reading on this forum and your information has been tremendous.

I just changed out my my MLPS also known as the neutral saftey switch....The first one I purchased was from Autozone (Wells)$36 and it didn't quite match the design but I figured it was a redesigned part seeing how the kit comes with a new conector...which was a real pain in the A** to change...
after changing it out the truck was very rough shifting gears and slamed into drive and reverse.....although it no longer sliped into neutral while crusing down the highway. So I purchased a (Niehoff) from checker Auto parts $38.. this was the same design as the old one...this also came with the new connector.... now the truck shifts great...... I now however do not have any reverse lights..I think I may have damaged the wire/wires when changing the connector........I know they were working before I changed the MLPS becasue a few weeks prior I wired up my trailer lights and was testing all the lights and they worked at that time. I was wondering if any one has a wiring diagram/ color code for the MLPS so I can track down the problem. I have a 1990 f250 with 5.8 E4OD ......(I had 6 wires on my MPLS 4 on the bottom and 2 on the top) I have done a lot of searches and I can only find a schematic.... which does not have any wire color or explanation.....please help

I don't think you messed anything up, instead you didn't install it properly, or all the way. You installed the MLPS with the truck in neutral correct?

What you want to do after you have it partialy installed is turn the ignition on, and shift the truck into reverse. The have someone stand behind the truck and watch while you wiggle the MLPS front to back. You will find a spot between to far one way, and too far the other that gives you back up lights. When you find it, tighten down, and wah lah. -myers

Alright I tried moving it around...and i got nothing...and then I undid the bolts and turned it bolth directions throught its full range and still nothing.

I really had a hard time getting the old connector off and replacing it with the new one. I really think that the wire for the reverse lights is not making contact or has shorted out but I need a wire diagram to know which wire I should be checking.

The other possiblity would be that I have the whole thing switched around and the 2 wires that I have on top ( or what I am calling the top)should really be on the bottom.....but I really have no Idea what is considered the top or the bottom? I was very careful to only take one wire out at a time so I would not mix them up but there is no reference to what is up and what is down.

However the truck is running great now except the fact that I have no reverse lights....so this leads me to the conclusion that the reverse light wire is loose.

Does anyone know what color wire goes to the reverse lights?

Is there a black/pink stripe?

The factory wiring diagrams for my 87 Ranger/95 Taurus/97 Explorer show the backup lights are wired bk/pk.

Yours is probably the same.
