A few months ago I found and installed a power steering box and steering column in my '65. At the time I was just going to purchase new lines so I figured I could figure out the lines. After my sons convinced me to install a 5.0 now I need to get some custom lines made to transition from the power steering box to the power steering pump on the 5.0. The box has two different types of fittings. One is small and one is larger. Which one of these is the high pressure side? Thanks.
Thanks! I'll take the larger fitting from the steering box and the pressure fitting from the '91 pump and have a hose built. I think I can use hose and clamps to make the low pressure side work.
Ummm just a thought... Why would the larger line be the pressure line? A smaller diameter would help keep the pressure and the larger diameter helps handle the return volume? Unless the larger line is actually smaller in diameter internally due to thicker hose reinforcments to handle the pressure. Like I said just a thought.
The lines might actually be the same size with the fittings being different. I needed advice since I need a hose made to fit the power steering unit on the '91 5.0 and the power steering box of the '65.
Do this.
Find out if the PS pump for the new engine going in is the same for a '78 F-150 with 400 or 351M.
I bet it is. If it is the pump with the wide mouthed plastic body, I bet it will fit.
If so, ask for a PS pressure hose for the '78 F-150 with a 351M or 400. (It might be the same for different engines offered in '78 and '79, I don't know.)
I am using an '86 460, '92 serpentine brackets and pulleys, a '78 PS pump with '78 PS lines, on a '76 PS gearbox. All installed into my '66 F-100, all bolt-up configurations, with no modifying required.
Yes I would describe the power steering pump on the 5.0 as having a wide mouth on a plastic body. Thanks for the information. I'll try to get the hose this evening.
Banjopicker 66 called this one! I bought the recommended line this afternoon and it will be a perfect install. So much better than getting a custom line built! Thanks Again!
