pa 6.0 stroker, i had a k and n intake system on my 2006 ps, and it was doing the same thing when u get on the accelerator and then let off suddenly, i would get the fluttering noise in the turbo, i took my truck to the dealer for warranty on an oil leak they checked the turbo as well, they said it was dusted from dirt passing thru that k and n filter intake system, so i am sending the k and n junk back for a refund and the factory system is back on , no more turbo noieses either, but i will probably install an afe stage 2 magnum force intake system with the pro guard 7 filter in the future
The "Flutter" sound you are referring to is quite common - see the numerous threads about this. Most have had it since they have purchased their trucks. Many do not realize it initially but within a few weeks it arises. Just curious - did you have another dealer look at your turbo or just the dealer who gave you the diagnosis?
vrybusy, i took it in for a oil leak on the oil cooler, and told them i had heard the back pressure noise in the turbo area when i get on the throttle and let off suddenly, my good friend is service supervior at a large ford dealer in the dfw area here in texas, so i let him take it in and he had his best diesel tech do the job, i took there advice and reinstalled the factory air system to prevent further dusting damage to the turbo..........and when i took the k and n junk off i looked at the turbo impeller and it looked a little dusted or like some of the finish was coming off the blades.
I have had a K&N filter on my 2005 for at least 25,000 miles (49,398 total miles as of today) and only mod I have done so far. I have been very satisfied with the filter. Only had the "farts" the first few miles after the installation none since them. I have had at the dealer for service 2 times after the 36,000 mile warranty no problems. Now, let me knock on wood.
well if u ever pull the intake tube off at the turbo look in there at the impeller with a flashlight, u will probably see some discoloration on the veins of the impeller where dust has suck thru the filter and blasted the impeller damaging or dusting the finish, from what i am hearing on this sight afe stage 2 magnum force canister intake with a pro guard 7 filter is about as good protection u can get from an aftermarket intake system, but r a little high on there price.
