I was thinking of getting a "boost" guage lately... What kind of PSI will these trucks push stock? I've heard an Optimistic 20 and 15 seems to be a more common answer. I'd like to get a guage with an appropriate range.
Also - I assume somewhere on the manifold plumbing there is a test port or something right? I'd rather not have to drill and deal with metal shavings.
0-30 will work unless you really get nuts with the mods you will find on this site. Most programmers and chips can send the boost over 30 psi.
There's no test port but you can tee into the map sensor line (rubber) easily. Map sensor lives on the firewall right above HVAC box with rubber line going to intake. Can't miss it.
I don't ever intend to modify the way the engine runs. I don't tow and I'd rather have the derated logevity -- Do we know about what the max PSI is stock? If they don't go over 20Lbs I'd rather get a 20 or 25 Lb Guage. If they don't go over 15Lbs I would want a 20Lb guage...
A stocker can go over 20 psi in some cases. Some on this site say they get 18 max and other claim 22+. There isn't much difference in 20, 25 or 30 psi gage as far as readablilty or accuracy IMO. Some makes are better than others tho. Most of the posts I've read are using autometer, isspro and a couple others I can't remember right now.
my 95 stock makes 20 on the sanp-on scanner, pegs the 15 psi mechanical guage i put on it to verify. no guages for me yet but i would get anythign under a 30 psi guage
