...Need opinions..I own a '89 F250 7.3, 5 speed overdrive manual,4.10, non turbo, 167,000 miles, all original, fine truck. Saturday I looked at the same truck for sale with Banks Turbo and 105,000 miles for $2500. Pyrometer gauge and 3 minute shut off timer.I like the truck and he came down to 1900.BUT, clutch felt weak to me, it wouldn't pull out in second like mine does without some added throttle. It ran fine, but didn't feel, to me, that the turbo made much difference in power as I hear everyone talk about.Glow plugs and celonoid need to be replaced. He used ether to start it. I only drove it for five minutes or so and it hadn't been driven in two months, late in the day. Hope to go look again in the bright sunlight monday.Do turbos need to warm up? Thought this purchase might make sense to an upgrade in power with little cost after selling one of the trucks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
1900 seems a bit on the high side considering you will need GP's and the controller... How did it operae in 1st and 3rd. Might be the cylendar is starting to wear. Also how long has it been since the trans & tork fluids were changed out.
I have a 89 without the turbo and an 89 with. Both are farm trucks so speed is not an issue, Both are worked hard carrying stuff and towing hey wagons on road. Honestly there is a little difference in torque between them, but not enought that would make me go out and buy a turbo.
The truck without has 287K miles and the one without has 249K and both run like a champ. Milage on the turbo is far worse than the one without hense why I mostly use the one without
