Hello all
Truck: 1986 Ranger 2.3 5spd reg/cab long bed. 143xxx miles. Like the truck, like the MPG.
Driver: 1965 6'1" slowspd. Chiropractor says 200xxx miles on lower back. Like the driver, like the MPB (mileage per beer).
Truck has a bench seat that needs to be replaced with a more comfortable bucket seat. Is their a seat that a person could swap out from a salvage vehicle that would be a simple bolt in? Not looking for anything fancy. I wouldn't want the engine to get jealous and stop running. Any help would get a big thank you.
I don't know if it's a direct bolt in, but alot of folks swap in explorer seats into thier rangers, it's a common swap, so I would think it shouldn't be too hard.
I know that Explorer (pre-'02 only) seats are a direct bolt-in for the newer Rangers, but I'm not sure about the older body style. Having driven a newer single-cab Ranger a bit, and knowing that the cabs got bigger over the years, I have to wonder whether there'd be enough room for it to work well.
Also, try the Explorer seats before you do the swap. I find the split-bench in my '97 Ranger to be at least as comfortable as the buckets that were in my Mom's old '94 Explorer, even though mine has twice the miles that hers had and the foam is pretty well squashed in mine.
Maybe the seat springs are just worn out... I have that prob with the driver side bench seat in my '93. I wish I could find a decent replacement bench seat for it. They really aren't too bad if the springs are good. Plus I need to be able to seat three occasionally.
There are also all kinds of heated and massage seat cushions you could sit on top of your existing seat. Never used one, so can't tell you any more then that. Look at someplace like heatmyseats.com or something like that...
Vstar: bronco 2 bucket seats should bolt in up till 92, and Explorer bucket seats should bolt in up till 94. The only thing is, if you have a true bench seat you may need to drill a second set of holes in the floor for the bucket seat frame to be mounted properly. But if you have the 60/40 split bench seat then all the holes will already be there. I had the 60/40 split bench seat in my 90 Ranger and I put in some buckets from a 93 Explorer and it was a direct bolt in.

Hey vstar. Welcome to the wonderfull world of FTE!!! Glad to see another 65'er on the forum. We came on the tail end of the baby boomers, so I guess that make us baby bummers . I know what you mean about the back. My chiropractor said I needed to be more active, so I started laying stone for a living . From my vast experience with the bone yards, the fellas behind the counter have these neat application compatibiliy books for all kinds of parts like that. Helps 'em sell more parts when they don't have the exact vehicle a customer is trying to fit. And don't worry about tears from your engine. As long as it's a ford part, she won't mind!!
