CCV Mod routed back to intake

Well I wanted to keep my boots clean but I didnt want the vapor from the ccv line coming out from under the truck or out of the exhaust. So i built this today.

The line from the CCV runs in on the right and is directed down to help collect the oils then gasses can exit from an interior pipe that has holes cut in it toward the top. Now my plan is to route the output end back to the intake on the pre-filter side. But am wondering if someone knows a reason why I should not return it pre-filter. It will be just as easy to put the return nipple post-filter I was just wanting added protection of refiltering the gasses.

I have a similar system, except mine hangs vertically and has a drain petcock on the bottom for the oil, and is packed full of stainless steel scrubbing pads.

I think if you plumb it back in pre filter you will still get enough oil vapor to completely oil up that expensive AIS fliter pretty quick. The oil might affect filter performance and life.

Nice setup. This is what i have wanted to do but wasn't creative enough to figure out. Can you just put the return hose back onto the intake pipe in the stock location? Thanks

I am going to try to fashion a nipple for the pipe I have in the stock location that is not as restrictive as the stock nipple

I would not face the nipple opening toward the turbo. The air flow would try to draft the oil vapors, just like a blow gun with a suction hose does with solvent for cleaning parts. You could reduce its size, but leave it facing away from the turbo. I have my CCV separator built similar to Clux. I do not get any oil in the nipple or on the compressor wheel. I do drain out the cannister about once a month and find only about a tablespoon of oil. The majority of the oil drains back to the valve cover by the routing of the hose over the brake master cylinder before the cannister.

I think all these CCV mods are right on the money. However, in the "C" world of engines they didn't want the EGR cooler in the off highway engine series due to oil contamination. Has anybody done an oil analys to see if this is an issue with this version of the mod?

I assume you mean dust contamination. My CCV cansiter is completely sealed, no more opportunity for contamination than the factory setup.

My last UOA had 6 ppm silicon with 10,152 miles on the oil, and that's with a lot of dusty dirt road and off road driving.

Meant it to be more of the pollutant nature than dust. Do a search on EGR cooler and see what Cummins has to say. They are though taking a bit of the exhaust with the EGR I believe, this may be the issue.
